The Stratford Library will present its fifteenth annual film festival of little-seen movies, “Great Movies You Missed.” The program is a continuation of the library’s specialized film series, which attracts over 1,000 patrons annually.
“Great Movies You Missed” will highlight five recent, critically acclaimed films that – for whatever reason – did not reach a wide audience during their general release. The festival, which includes two comedies and a foreign film, will feature film critic Tom Holehan from the Connecticut Critics Circle for commentary prior to the screenings.

November 6: “Air”: The subject of director Ben Affleck’s latest film is the unbelievable, game-changing partnership between a then-rookie Michael Jordan and Nike’s fledgling basketball division, which revolutionized the world of sports and contemporary culture with the Air Jordan brand. This moving story follows the career-defining gamble of an unconventional team with everything on the line, the uncompromising vision of a mother who knows the worth of her son’s immense talent, and the basketball phenom who would become the greatest of all time. The excellent cast includes Affleck, Matt Damon, Jason Bateman and Viola Davis. 112 minutes, Rated R.
November 7: “You Hurt My Feelings”: From acclaimed filmmaker Nicole Holofcener, a sharply observed adult comedy about a novelist whose long standing marriage is suddenly upended when she overhears her husband give his honest reaction to her latest book. A film about trust, lies, and the things we say to the people we love most. Julia Louis-Dreyfuss and Tobias Menzies star as the couple. 93 minutes, Rated R.
November 8: “Past Lives”: Nora and Hae Sung, two deeply connected childhood friends, are wrested apart after Nora’s family emigrates from South Korea. Two decades later, they are reunited in New York for one fateful week as they confront notions of destiny, love, and the choices that make a life, in this heartrending modern romance. 106 minutes, Rated PG:13.
November 9: “Theater Camp”: Tony Award winner Ben Platt and Molly Gordon star in this original comedy about lifelong best friends and drama instructors at a rundown camp in upstate New York. When clueless tech-bro Troy (Jimmy Tatro) arrives to run the property (into the ground), the friends band together with the staff and students to stage a masterpiece, and keep their beloved summer camp afloat. 94 minutes, Rated PG:13.
November 10: “Talk to Me”: When a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces. With a gripping story and impressive practical effects, “Talk to Me” spins a terrifically creepy 21st-century horror yarn built on classic foundations. The best horror film of the year. 95 minutes, Rated R.
All movies will be shown uncut and in widescreen format at 12:00 noon each day. The film festival, recommended for adult audiences, will be held in the library’s Lovell Room.
