Mandolins Music Reinvented

Walkingwood Mandolin Quartet
Saturday, November 12th from 7 p.m.-9 p.m.

Unitarian Universalist Church

The Walkingwood Mandolin Quartet (WMQ) will be performing in concert on Saturday, November 12th, from 7:00 p.m.to 9:00 p.m.  Admission: $15.00 at the door. A portion of the proceeds will benefit a local nonprofit in Stratford.

Whatever your preconceptions are about mandolin quartets, you will become more knowledgeable quickly. WMQ was founded at the turn of the century (um, the most-recent one) to apply the “quartetto classico” version of the mandolin quartet to a completely new repertoire of original compositions mixed up with Motown, TV themes, surf, O’Carolan Irish tunes, hard rock, traditional and Swedish… A common response is “I can’t believe you can play that on mandolins!”

The current, and founding, members of WMQ are:

Betsy Rome, Ellen Cohn, mandolin; Colin Healy, mandola; mandolin; and Gary Wikfors, mandocello.

They infuse their arrangements with a healthy dose of humor and especially appreciate it when audience members leap to their feet to “sing along” with their instrumentals!

There will be an intermission for light refreshments.  Spend an evening listening to joyful music at the                              Unitarian Universalist Church at 275 Huntington Road, Stratford.
