Can you really balance work and school?
Yes! Stratford EMS understands that many students have obligations to their jobs, families, education and more. This is why we have many students enrolled in our program that work full time or go to college. No one is going to lie to you and say it’s easy but it’s absolutely possible.
As with any education, there are things you must take seriously, study for, and practice. When you commit yourself to the course, as many do to balance work and school, you’ll find that there’s plenty of time and opportunity to do just that.
One former student said: “I work a full-time job. Honestly, when I came into this program I thought to myself, ‘Can I really do this?’ The staff here knew many people had lives outside of Emergency Medical Technician school and they challenged us. They also provided opportunities for us to succeed. It wasn’t easy but I would say it’s definitely worth it”
Another stated, “The program allowed me to balance work and school. I treated it as another full-time job for a few months and once I was certified it opened up a great opportunity for me.”
Hands-on experience is essential.
Emergency medical services is a field where you can’t simply memorize facts and figures from a textbook, you have to learn through practice and experience. Students learn assessments, CPR, resuscitation, airway management, traumatology, medical emergencies, trauma, blood loss, splinting, patient movement and many more topics while being able to participate in clinicals and ambulance ride-alongs with professional paramedics. By the end of the course, trainees have experience and confidence to be a certified and competent entry level Emergency Medical Technicians.

Certification is just the beginning of a life long journey.
