Our very first Juneteenth Celebration at the South End Community Center was a success. With over 85 people in attendance and a few vendors creating magic, we have memories to last us until next year. It was our first Juneteenth Celebration of the kind held in Stratford. It was a time for our community to come together and honor freedom.
When I first began my career at the South End Community Center, we had the best Kwanzaa and Christmas celebrations. In the planning of this year’s Juneteenth event, my vision was simple. What I wanted most of all was for young people to attend, come out, and have fun. While celebrating with us in our very own community, I also wanted them to learn a little something about Juneteenth. We live in a wonderful community, and I wanted them to truly experience that as well.
My heart continues to be full from the celebration that brought our entire community together. Our freedom deserves to be celebrated, and a huge thank you to our community members and business owners for supporting this event and donating food and experiences to our Stratford community. Let’s keep celebrating community, freedom, and Juneteenth.
