Stratford Library to host Paul Backalenick

Meet-the-Author on Zoom Platform April 25 from 2-3 p.m.

The Stratford Library will host former Connecticut resident Paul Backalenick for a special “Meet-the-Author” program on Sunday, April 25th.   Backalenick will discuss his most recent novel in the program which is free and open to the public.

Formerly of Westport, Paul Backalenick is the author of psychological mystery and suspense novels, most recently Carrie’s Secret – The double mystery of two sisters trapped worlds apart The book was praised as “surprising” and “an engaging mystery” (Kirkus Reviews). In it, a teenage psychiatric patient bears a terrible secret. She feels it is too dangerous to reveal, yet withholding it may destroy her family and send the wrong man to prison for life.

Carrie’s Secret takes you into a mental hospital in the 1980s as a suburban couple struggles to understand and help their threatened daughter. And she is not the only one in danger there. When she falls or is pushed out a window, there are many suspects among the patients and staff, but the police settle on Jared, an aide at the hospital, as their prime suspect.

And then there is Carrie’s older sister Wendy, a beautiful girl who disappeared without a trace a year before. What happened to her is the start of everything. It seems almost everyone is trapped one way or another and you will keep turning the pages right up to the unexpected twist at the end.

Originally from New England, Paul grew up in Westport, where his first novel, Development, takes place. He now lives in New York City with his wife, artist Karen Loew. He is currently hard at work on his third novel, a mystery set in Las Vegas, tentatively titled Empty Luck.

Backalenick worked in psychiatric and rehab facilities for a number of years before becoming an information technology strategy consultant and eventually founding and running a web development and Internet marketing company, which he sold in 2018.
