With spring training starting up and the regular season being a little over a month away let’s take dive into who has a chance to make the opening day roster and contribute to the team. With injuries already taking a toll on them.
Injuries
Jasson DomÃnguez is recovering from Tommy John surgery, and Carlos Rondon is recovering from back and hamstring injuries which kept him from being on the active roster. The Yankees spent a lot of money to sign him and he only pitched 14 games out of the 30 possible games so he has much to prove. Also coming back from injury is Giancarlo Stanton who had the worst season of his career with a batting percentage of .181, and having a hamstring strain that forced him to miss six weeks of the season and he was never the same player following the injury.
Pitching rotation
The pitching rotation is currently Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rondon, Nestor Cortez, Marcus Stroman, Clarke Schmidt, Yoendrys Gómez, Clayton Beeter and Luis Gil, they also have Johnathan Loáisiga who has a lot of starting pitching experience who can fill in for anybody who gets hurt.
The rotation looks great on paper but how many innings will Carlos and Nestor pitch this season, will there be an innings or pitch count for them. Also, what will Marcus Stroman be able to produce because did he have a decent season on a bad Cubs team? Yes, but he still lost 9 games and had a ERA( Earned Run Average) of almost 4.
Moving onto the rest of the rotation the Yankees will probably only have Clarke Schmidt on the active roster and have Yoendrys and Clayton and Luis in triple-A or move one or two of them in the bullpen and have them come in as a relief pitcher.
Will the Yankees finally win their 26th World Series this year or will it be another season where they come up short?
