Sterling House Community Center Rebrands~~

Celebrates Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Wednesday, October 30th, at 3:00 P.M.

For the first time in its 90-year history, Sterling House Community Center is excited to announce its rebranding as “Sterling Community Center.” The new name embodies the center’s commitment to inclusivity, growth, and its mission to serve the community in a broader, more dynamic way.

To celebrate this new chapter, Sterling Community Center will host a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on the front lawn of Sterling House. The event will officially mark the completion of extensive restorations to the historic Sterling House, a cherished landmark and a hub of community life.

Event Highlights:

          ●  What: Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Renovated Sterling House & Rebranding to Sterling Community Center

          ●  When: October 30, 2024, at 3:00 PM

          ●  Where: Front Lawn of Sterling Community Center, 2283 Main Street, Stratford

          ●  RSVP: https://forms.gle/ajGDwqyWbm7Vq6seA

The ceremony will feature remarks from community leaders, guided tours of the restorations, and light refreshments. This celebration underscores the community’s support and the center’s dedication to providing a welcoming space for all ages.

Restoring a Community Icon

Sterling House recently underwent significant revitalization work, including the replacement of its 138-year-old original slate roof, critical brick repair, heating and ventilation upgrades, restoration of water-damaged interior structures and spaces, and accessibility improvements. This renovation project enhances the building’s functionality while preserving the historic character of this beloved community resource, ensuring that the Sterling Community Center can continue to serve generations to come.

“With this new roof over our heads, and improvements to enhance health, safety, and comfort on-site year-round, we will be even better equipped to welcome all, bring people together, and serve our amazing community,” said Amanda Meeson, Executive Director of the Sterling Community Center. “I am so proud of all the work our team, the Town, and the community have poured into this project. It’s time to celebrate!”

Stratford Mayor Laura Hoydick agreed: “Sterling House has long been a place of gathering and connection, fostering community, growth and creativity. Sterling House has always been and continues to be open to all, welcoming the community of Stratford and the surrounding region. With these physical improvements, all those who make Sterling House the heart of our community will continue the good work that has nurtured us for the past 90 years.”

This renewal effort was made possible thanks to the support of the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (CT DECD), the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through both the Community Projects Fund (CPF) with support from Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro and the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Additional project financing came from the Milford Bank through a lending program for nonprofits. This project was also made possible through a partnership with Stratford’s Town Hall, with guidance from Visionary Interiors Architecture (VIA), and general contracting by Turner Construction Company. Sterling Community Center is grateful for their commitment to preserving our heritage and strengthening our facilities for all the great work ahead.

Rebranding A Legacy

After years of input and encouragement from stakeholders and community members, Sterling House Community Center is proud to announce a significant transformation. This new identity as Sterling Community Center celebrates the multifaceted work of the organization, the pride in serving a diverse community, and honors its rich history.

Alongside its new name, Sterling Community Center has introduced a refreshed logo featuring an arch icon. The design draws inspiration from the stately architecture of the historic Sterling House mansion, while the brand colors reflect Stratford’s unique identity as a community that connects forest to shore. In addition, the organization adopted a new mission and vision:

Our Mission: Sterling Community Center creates impactful and inclusive programs and services that engage and cultivate a thriving community.

Our Vision: A community we can all be proud of.
