Sterling House Student Scholarships Still Open

Applications are available for Stratford graduating seniors. Scholarships available include:

The Knepler Memorial Scholarship
The Knepler Memorial Scholarship Fund at Sterling House Community Center was established by the Knepler family in memory of Howard J. Knepler. The Knepler scholarship is awarded to two teens each year “involved in athletics.” One graduating senior from Bunnell and Stratford High Schools are chosen from a pool of applicants.

Patricia Grom Memorial Scholarship
In memory of Patricia Grom – wife, mother, grandmother and a vibrant member to the Stratford community. Applicants must be graduating seniors who are pursuing secondary education at a two- or four-year college, university, or trade school.

George W. Grom Scholarship
This George W. Grom scholarship is in honor of a man with many interests. George will be 91 years old and is a veteran of the Korean War. While in the US Navy, George played saxophone and clarinet in the band on the warship, USS New Jersey. He used the G.I. Bill to complete a business degree at Fairfield University, graduating with high honors. With his wife, Patricia Grom he raised his five children in Stratford. While George worked as an accountant, he found time to take his family on many camping adventures. George is a true renaissance man who continues to enjoy oil painting and music. He was an active member of the Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, making an appearance at Carnegie Hall. This scholarship will be given to someone who wishes to pursue a college degree in the arts.

Weissaurer Scholarship
The Weissaurer Scholarship is open to Stratford High School Students who have played with Storm Lacrosse and have volunteered in the Stratford Community. This individual should have been a good teammate and showed great sportsmanship. Applicants must be in good academic standing.
